The process of ISO re-certification requires effort but is not cumbersome. It simply requires a reassessment of the organization, and it’s documented quality management system. Every three years, ISO requires re certification in order for it to be valid. Companies must continually improve to qualify for the re certification process. Here is what to expect of the re-certification process.
Ensure Effective Implementation of
the Management System
The renewal audit plan is reviewed by a panel to ensure that any audit time assigned will be used to verify the implementation of management systems in an effective and efficient manner. In general, with a management system audit, 80 percent of the audit time will be provided onsite.
Reassessment Reviews Past Performance
The reassessment will include a review of past performance. It will include an examination of documents and records that relate to management review, internal audits, and effectiveness of corrective and preventive actions.
Lead Auditors Conduct Reassessment
Lead auditors will conduct the reassessments and then, submit the report. Team leaders are available to ensure that no independent decisions will be made without the lead auditor present. Lead auditors play an instrumental role in the reassessment process and should be selected wisely to improve each company’s chances of renewal.
The ISO Re Certification audit should be planned and conducted three months prior to the date that the certificate should be verified. The review should look for non-conformance and also be followed by a surveillance audit. Advance notice is usually sent to the client before the re-certification process begins. Every team leader should review the previous reports and make a note of previous reports.
All reassessments should encourage the effective interaction between the different components of a system and audit activities. The overall effectiveness of the system should be reviewed. They must also demonstrate commitment to maintaining the effectiveness of each system after improvements have been implemented. At least once every three years, all areas, clauses, and processes must be reviewed and audited.
Any corrective actions must be addressed and closed within a 15 day window after a re-certification audit. If there’s continual improvement processes in place, there will be fewer corrective actions that need to take place within 15 days after the audit.
Renewing ISO certification should not be difficult if the processes are followed. Most companies are continually improving, and thus, the renewal process is not cumbersome because they are making changes continuously throughout the three-year process. Companies must engage in continuing education and engage in workshops to keep up with the latest in the industry. Otherwise, they’ll lose their certification and fall behind their competitors. It’s best to be proactive, keep your competitive advantage, and work to remain up-to-date with renewal.
